MolSketch is a free chemical structure editor that runs entirely in your browser.

No installation required, no account or login needed. Just open the page and start drawing right away.

This article introduces what you can do with MolSketch and its main features.

Key Highlights

MolSketch is a web tool designed for anyone who wants to create chemical structures with minimal effort.

  • Works entirely in the browser
  • Completely free
  • No account or login required
  • Export as PNG or SVG
  • Auto-generate structures from SMILES or CAS numbers
  • Works on smartphones
  • Available in 7 languages

Suitable for research, education, document creation, and web publishing.

1. Intuitive Bond Drawing

MolSketch lets you select a bond type from the toolbar and draw structures on the canvas.

Supports single bonds, double bonds, triple bonds, and directional bonds. Templates for benzene rings and chain structures are also available for commonly used structures.

Click an existing bond to change its type or direction — easy to adjust after drawing.

2. PNG / SVG Export

Export your structures as PNG or SVG.

PNG is ideal for inserting into documents or slides. SVG is perfect for websites and high-resolution display. SVG can also be copied to the clipboard for direct embedding in HTML.

Structures are automatically trimmed to fit the content when exported, so no manual cropping is needed.

3. Edit from History

MolSketch saves your created structures as history.

You can reopen and edit any previously created structure, or export it again in a different format.

  • Reuse a structure you made before
  • Change just the color or an atom
  • Export the same structure in a different format

No need to redraw from scratch every time — great for ongoing document work.

4. Library of 10,000+ Structures

MolSketch includes a library of over 10,000 chemical structures.

Search by compound name, CAS number, SMILES, and more. Results can be exported directly or opened in the editor for further modification. Physical properties such as boiling point are also available for some compounds.

5. Auto-Generate from SMILES or CAS Numbers

Enter a SMILES string or CAS number to automatically generate the corresponding structure.

Over 100 million structures are supported, so even complex molecules can be retrieved quickly. This saves significant time compared to drawing from scratch.

6. Smartphone Support

MolSketch works on smartphones as well as PCs.

Whether you're away from your desk or on the move, you can access and create structures from your mobile browser. For quick checks and simple edits, a smartphone works perfectly.

7. Additional Features

Eraser / Delete

Remove bonds or atoms with a single tap. Quickly fix mistakes.

Undo / Redo

Undo or redo any action. Edit with confidence.

Add Atoms and Set Charges

Add custom atoms to the toolbar and assign charges to atoms.

Zoom In / Out

Zoom the canvas in or out for an overview or detailed editing.

Color Palette

Freely change the color of structures to match your document or website design.

Sharing

Share structures from MolSketch or the library with others.
